Training Opportunities

Philo4Thought hosts a variety of training opportunities for energetic, responsible young professionals at every level!

Emerging young professionals are eligible to complete a post-baccalaureate training project
that allows them to gain experience and expand their professional network.

Training Opportunities

Those interested in participating in any of our available training opportunities must choose from among the following categories:

  • Junior Business Liaison: Trains directly with the CEO and CFO/Chair of Grants & Fundraising. Assists this financial team in increasing efficiency of fundraising/fund usage for events and programming. (Reports jointly to CEO and CFO. Background work to be completed online and formally reported at monthly meeting. Access and supervision level TBD based on experience.)
  • Junior Editorial Assistant: Trains directly with the CEO and Editor. Assists in the development of content for media and publications. (Reports to Editor. Work completed online and formally reported at monthly meeting. Access and supervision level TBD based on experience.)
  • Junior Educational Assistant/Public Policy Liaison: Trains directly with the CEO (Academic Director) and Programming Director. Assists in the preparation of course modules and educational research for seminar/video content. Observes policy-making protocols and related materials required for educational programming and publications. Assists Internship Director with monthly logs. (Reports jointly to CEO and Programming Director.)
  • Junior Graphics/Animation Assistant: Trains directly with the CEO and Editor. Assists in the development of content for social media, educational publications and promotional packets. Liaison to creative and technical teams. (Reports to Editor. Work completed online and formally reported at monthly meeting. Access and supervision level TBD based on experience.)
  • Junior Hospitality Liaison: Trains directly with the CEO and Community Outreach Liaison (COL). Assists in planning and coordination of annual events. Meet-and-greet at monthly events, with follow-up emails to attendees. (Reports jointly to CEO and COL Work completed online and at events. Formal report submitted online. Access and supervision level TBD based on experience.)
  • Junior IT Assistant: Trains with Editor and technical support team. Assists in the monthly maintenance of the central website and social media. Suggests aesthetic/technological improvements that will appeal to the young pro demographic. (Reports to Editor. Work completed online and formally reported at monthly meeting. Access and supervision level TBD based on experience.)
  • Junior Marketing/Public Relations Assistant: Trains directly with the CEO and Programming Director. Assists in content branding and strategic dissemination of information. (Reports jointly to CEO and Programming Director. Work completed online and formally reported at monthly meeting. Access and supervision level TBD based on experience.)
  • Junior Research/Programming Assistant: Trains directly with the CEO and Editor. Assists in the development of content for educational programming and publications. Assists with polls indicating the need for specific topics. (Reports to Editor. Work completed online and formally reported at monthly meeting. Access and supervision level TBD based on experience.)
  • Interdisciplinary Training: Double majors/minors seeking specialized opportunities, please email us at p4tinfo@gmail.com to submit a proposed outline of the terms for your interdisciplinary research and designated project. Those opting for this training opportunity must be granted special permission and be matched with two mentors on our team for the duration of the training.
  • Entrepreneurial Training: Emerging young professionals seeking entrepreneurial training in the nonprofit sector must email us at p4tinfo@gmail.com to submit a proposed outline of the terms for your research and designated project. Those opting for this training opportunity must have the full support of their department and be able to be matched with two mentors on our team for the duration of the training.

Application Cycles

Our team reviews applications at three intervals throughout the year. 

Those interested in participating in available training in the areas of interest outlined above must complete an application process. The application review cycles are as follows:

  • AUG. 15th Deadline: standard 3-month Fall Semester (120-140 hours)
  • DEC. 15th Deadline: standard 3-month Spring Semester (120-140 hours)
  • FEB. 15th Deadline: intensive 2-month Summer Semester (Unavailable for 2021)
These application deadlines apply to all Post-Baccalaureate Trainees.

Application Guidelines & Requirements

  • A cover letter outlining (1) the specific opportunity to which you are applying and (2) the academic or professional requirement this opportunity will fulfill.
  • A resume outlining related training and experience.
  • 2 formal Letters of Recommendation (1) from the Dean/Assistant Principal of Guidance from school; (2) from current or former employers.
  • An official school transcript indicating a history of academic/extracurricular excellence (G.P.A. of 3.5 or higher) and class standing as a Junior/Senior in the year for which you are applying).
  • Qualified candidates must be one of the following: (1) an emerging young professional seeking a training opportunity to advance in a specific career path through our Mentor Matching initiative while working on a special project with a key member of our Executive Board.; (2) an enrolled Undergraduate Junior/Senior or Graduate student seeking credit towards a current degree program; (3) an AP-Level High School Junior/Senior looking to fulfill their community service requirement; (4) new graduates transitioning to the workforce. 
  • Young Professionals applying for post-baccalaureate entrepreneurial training must (1) email p4tinfo@gmail.com with an outline of the proposed project they wish to complete (based on the areas outlined above); (2) meet qualifications set by Philo4Thought by completing the application below. ; (3) provide the resume and transcript needed for all those connecting with Philo4Thought for this opportunity.

Required Skills & Specializations

For All Post-Baccalaureate Trainees
Emerging young professionals applying for post-baccalaureate or entrepreneurial training require the following skills… 
  • Strong (English) written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong critical thinking/analytical/problem-solving skills.
  • Strong sense of professionalism and exceptional moral compass a must.
  • Major/Minor in one or more of the following: Education, Web/Media, Journalism, Social Science/Humanities, Hellenic Studies, Business Administration, Human Resources Administration, Hospitality, Communications, Policy & Development, Sociology or a related field.
  • Collaborative/Team-Player Spirit.
  • Ability to make sound, ethical decisions.
  • Some Volunteerism or Community Outreach experience.
  • Familiarity with standard Social Media.
  • Those applying for Junior I.T. Assistant projects should have demonstrated experience with online platforms, data management/analytics and/or web design.
  • Completed Major/Minor in one or more of the following: Education, Web/Media, Journalism, Social Science/Humanities, Hellenic Studies, Business Administration, Human Resources Administration, Hospitality, Communications, Policy & Development, Sociology or related fields.
  • Some administrative or practical work experience.

Preferred Skills/Specializations

  • Previous leadership skills a plus.

  • Creative abilities a plus.

  • Bilingual fluency (English-Greek, English-French, English-Spanish) a plus.

  • Working knowledge of American Sign Language a plus.

Duration of Training

 
  • Standard Fall/Spring Post-Baccalaureate Training (3 Months): Emerging young professionals apply for a 3-month training. The start and end dates and weekly schedule are determined in the pre-outlined agreement and documentation established between the young professional and Philo4Thought’s Recruitment Director. Trainees interested in staying on for an additional 3 months must complete a new application. In some cases, a new agreement must be set up with the training sponsor.

  • Intensive Summer (3 Months)A limited number of summer opportunities are offered based on prior agreement. (This opportunity is not available for the Summer 2021.)
