HYPLife: September 2021

HYPLife

September 2021

EDITOR'S NOTE

KALO MINA! WELCOME BACK!

As a teacher, student, daughter and mom, September has always been my favorite time of year. It’s an exciting transitional month when we approach life with a fresh store of supplies, updated tech with an openness to networking with new colleagues and more. It’s the time for  organized optimism and quiet confidence.

This month’s edition of HYPLife includes a special feature about a special mentor of mine who moved and inspired me from my first few steps in the US — Dr. Nadine E. Sabbagh — whose fierce faith is equalled with her great love for humanity and her ability to unlock the potential of others. Throughout her lifetime she has helped countless individuals in the process of overcoming remarkable strife, having survived her own challenges with wisdom, grace and dignity.

As always, we also have the usual inspirational readings and videos available along with event announcements for our Fall 2021 activities. We invite you to join in reading this month’s issue of #HYPLife to learn more about them!

Our Fall Internship Application Period has ended. We will announce the Spring 2022 recruitment soon. Additional information about the available internships, upcoming events and ongoing mentoring opportunities are available below. Our goal is to educate, inspire and empower our readers and viewers!

Have a question or topic you’d like addressed in a future video or newsletter? Please send your feedback through the chat box at the bottom of the screen or email us.

Enjoy our free monthly newsletter!

Please share with friends, family and colleagues!

Best wishes for the month ahead!

ADVISORY VIDEOS

Instructional Design Presentation (St. John’s University Spring 2021)

  • Our CEO was recruited to prepare a special presentation, “Mentoring & Instruction During the Pandemic,” at St. John’s University Center for Teaching & Learning. Below is the summarized digital version of the work presented at this annual campus forum. It provides a comprehensive overview of the transitional challenges teachers and students have faced since January 2020 and offers some positive feedback about successful institutional pivots (with Philo4Thought as a small-scale model of best practices for a successful transition/pivot).

  • Advanced Research/Predictions for Online & Hybrid Instruction  — Extensive research on this topic was conducted and presented in April 2019 at the American Philosophical Association; it’s this body of research that enabled the team to seek out strategic partners and find creative means to keep our programming fresh and available to the community.

  • Recognition. Of course Philo4Thought could not have made this vision into a reality without the support of our volunteers, resident advisors, strategic partners, guest lecturers and fellow philanthropists. We’re so blessed to have your support!

3 Mindfulness Tips

  • Tip 1: Sound body, sound mind, sound lifestyle. Understanding yourself and your goals from the inside out is the key to establishing a healthy, balanced lifestyle and, by extension, a less stressful career path.

  • Tip 2: Adopt and commit to sustainable daily habits. Set realistic daily goals and stick to them.

  • Tip 3: If you want change, stop complaining and make a change! Too many people complain about feeling unhealthy or overwhelmed but don’t take action to redirect their daily habits to adopt a healthier, less stressful routine.
  • Tip 4: Straight A’s — Assess, ask, assert. Too many people are shy about taking the time to assess a situation — they’re too caught up in their “I’m busy” loop; it’s important to take the time to pause and assess your actions, goals, success, stressors and failures in a direct and honest manner. Many are shy about asking or asserting themselves, but those who don’t bother ask the right questions or to assert themselves tend not to lead productive fulfilling lives. It’s important to follow the three A’s to a productive, successful, balanced lifestyle.
