Mentoring & Instruction During The Pandemic: Transitions & Best Practices
Sneak Peak! This presentation is a summary of a full presentation prepared for the Center for Teaching & Learning at St. John’s University. It provides a comprehensive overview of the transitional challenges teachers and students have faced since January 2020 and offers some positive feedback about successful institutional pivots as well as a small-scale model — Philo4Thought — which will be discussed at an annual campus forum.
- Advanced Research/Predictions for Online & Hybrid Instruction — Extensive research on this topic was conducted and presented in April 2019 at the American Philosophical Association; it’s this body of research that enabled the team to seek out strategic partners and find creative means to keep our programming fresh and available to the community. Of course we could not have made this vision into a reality without the support of our volunteers, resident advisors, strategic partners, guest lecturers and fellow philanthropists. We’re so blessed to have your support!

3 Mindfulness Tips
Tip 1: Sound body, sound mind, sound lifestyle. Understanding yourself and your goals from the inside out is the key to establishing a healthy, balanced lifestyle and, by extension, a less stressful career path.
Tip 2: Adopt and commit to sustainable daily habits. Set realistic daily goals and stick to them.
- Tip 3: If you want change, stop complaining and make a change! Too many people complain about feeling unhealthy or overwhelmed but don’t take action to redirect their daily habits to adopt a healthier, less stressful routine.
- Tip 4: Straight A’s — Assess, ask, assert. Too many people are shy about taking the time to assess a situation — they’re too caught up in their “I’m busy” loop; it’s important to take the time to pause and assess your actions, goals, success, stressors and failures in a direct and honest manner. Many are shy about asking or asserting themselves, but those who don’t bother ask the right questions or to assert themselves tend not to lead productive fulfilling lives. It’s important to follow the three A’s to a productive, successful, balanced lifestyle.
